Bad Corn Lawsuits Filed Against Syngenta Reach 2,000

Attorney David Domina commented to the Lincoln Journal Star that he is representing about 1,200 corn producers in Nebraska who collectively produce more than 10 percent of the state’s corn.

Current numbers reflect about 2,000 farmers, grain handlers, and corn exporters who have filed lawsuits against Syngenta over its GMO corn seed that was initially rejected by China. Recently, a federal court judge moved to allow these lawsuits to move forward, despite protests from Syngenta.

According to the plaintiffs’ lawsuits, Syngenta failed to get approval from China before introducing its genetically modified corn seed onto the market. When China initially rejected all U.S. corn imports because of the GMO trait, it cost the U.S. corn industry an estimated $1 billion to $3 billion, according to complaints.

Domina Law Group represents many of these plaintiffs. Domina told the Lincoln Journal Star that, while he can’t comment on how many claims have been filed in Nebraska overall, he personally represents about 1,200, which comprises more than 10 percent of the state’s corn production.

Another attorney, commenting on current Syngenta litigation, said, “This is by far the largest agricultural case that has gone forward.”
