San Francisco Jury Awards Roundup Cancer Victim $80 Million in Damages

“Domina Law Group filed the first Roundup case in the nation, on behalf of Midwestern farmers as well as several of the country’s first Roundup lawsuits alleging a link between herbicide’s Glyphosate chemical and non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma.” – Lincoln Journal Star.

On March 27, 2019, a six-person federal jury in San Francisco returned an $80 million award to a California man who claimed prolonged use of Roundup weed killer caused his cancer.

The award is the second to address claims that Roundup’s glyphosate chemical causes cancer, and specifically Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. In August 2018, a different jury in California awarded $289 million to a school groundskeeper who was also diagnosed with cancer after using Roundup. That award was reduced to $78 million, and Monsanto, now owned by Bayer, has appealed the case.

Last month’s $80M award is the second in the high-profile, high-stakes litigation surrounding Roundup, the world’s most popular herbicide. Domina Law Group filed the Nebraska portion of the Roundup battle – the first Roundup lawsuit in the U.S. – on behalf of Midwestern farmers, as well as a number of the nation’s first claims to allege links between the glyphosate chemical used in the herbicide and Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.

This particular case involved a California farmer who was diagnosed with cancer after using Roundup on his 60-acre farm. On March 19, the jury unanimously found Roundup to be a substantial factor for his Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.
