Dave Domina Quoted by Omaha-World Herald on Campaign Consultant Suit Against City Councilman

Domina Law Group Founder David A. Domina was quoted in an article from the Omaha World-Herald about an ongoing legal battle between a political consulting firm and Omaha City Councilman Danny Begley.

As reported by the World-Herald, Domina represents Cerberus Strategies, a political consulting firm, in a lawsuit that claims Begley failed to pay over $11,000 for campaign and consulting services during the 2021 election cycle.

In the filing, Cerberus claims it was contracted to receive $5,000 a month for event planning, volunteer training, social media management, debate prep, and other campaign services, and that a contractual clause stipulated that Cerberus would receive a $10,000 “win” bonus if Begley prevailed in the general election. However, the suit claims, Begley’s campaign failed to pay the bonus and initially didn’t pay the final month’s fee before paying a prorated amount, which brought the outstanding balance to $11,250.

In a counterclaim filed earlier this month, Begley challenged those claims, contending that the contracted was mutually terminated in May, just a week before the city general election, over a disagreement on response strategy to a controversial political flyer distributed by the Police Officer’s Association. He claimed Cerberus was not entitled to the stipulated bonus.

In an interview with the World-Herald, Dave Domina stated that Begley’s campaign committee has been working for months to escape liability for the debt. He also commented on the latest counterclaim:

“Belated claims are usually made by someone on defense, not offense. We will see what a jury thinks when the case is tried.”
