$3.15M Settlement for Archdiocese of Chicago Sex Abuse Victim

The Archdiocese of Chicago has agreed to a $3.15 million settlement to a sexual abuse victim. The lawsuit, which was filed in 2010, claimed that the Archdiocese of Chicago and Cardinal Francis George did nothing to prevent Reverend Daniel McCormack from carrying out acts of sexual abuse on the victim. According to the suit, both the Archdiocese and its Cardinal had received multiple complaints that McCormack was sexually abusing minors. Not only did they do nothing to remove him, they also granted him direct access to children.

McCormack was arrested and charged with multiple counts of sexual abuse in 2006 and pled guilty to those charges in 2007. Currently, he is serving out his five-year prison sentence. A Cook County judge is also contemplating leaving him in custody under the Sexually Violent Persons Commitment Act. For more on this story, read it on The Chicago Tribune.
