Omaha World Herald: Pros and Cons of Keystone XL Pipeline Aired One Last Time

The Omaha World Herald recently published an article that featured our very own Brian Jorde on his representation of over 100 Nebraska landowners against the Keystone XL pipeline route. There are two basic camps of Nebraska landowners when it comes to this pipeline: those who don't want it at all and those who are advocating for a more intelligent route. Landowners are concerned about safety and the possibility of spills; however, TransCanada justifies the route by saying it affects fewer landowners than any other feasible route. The route TransCanada chose is also the lease expensive route. The state's review of the Keystone XL pipeline has been compared to the review conducted by the Department of Environmental Quality on the radioactive waste repository near Butte, Nebraska. This particular repository eventually ended in a $125 million lawsuit that the state lost.
